MAKING ENDS MEET

‘Mind the gap between / the poem and the quay’, warns the poet in this latest collection. Making Ends Meet is a playful and reflective addition to McNeillie’s body of work. Old friends and heroes make appearances – like Seamus Heaney and Richard Murphy – old words and old ways. We return to the night and to the sea, to islands, fish and fishing, remembering and mending. And we also find the poet at various kinds of play, from McNeillie’s momentous translation of ‘The Battle of Maldon’ to his ‘Mackerel Times Table’. This is a wonderful collection.

Andrew McNeillie runs the Clutag Press and is the founding editor of the literary magazine ArchipelagoMaking Ends Meet is his seventh collection. His memoir An Aran Keening was published in Dublin by the Lilliput Press in 2001. Born in North Wales in 1946 and brought up there, he went on to read English at Magdalen College, Oxford.

Making Ends Meet is printed on Mohawk Superfine and section-sewn. The cover is by Sarah Crookes.
